The Upper Thames Centre was established in February 1950 as a regional branch of The Caravan Club, originally formed out of the Midland Centre and covering areas of Oxfordshire and Berkshire. Over the decades it has maintained a strong and active membership, growing from modest beginnings to become a well-loved part of the caravanning community. While other regional centres adopted county-based names as membership expanded, Upper Thames retained its original identity thanks to the dedication of early organisers.
Throughout its history, the Centre has organised a wide variety of rallies and social events — from traditional seasonal gatherings like bonfire nights and Halloween to special trophy competitions, holiday rallies both at home and abroad, and long-established favourites such as the Henley Regatta and Annual Dinner Dance. Members’ involvement in these activities has helped to nurture a strong sense of community and camaraderie that lives on today.
